Out of the blue

My lovely friend Disco came to visit last night, and we had a lovely time catching up and discussing men, as she has just split up with her boyfriend (again!). I was bemoaning my lack of activity in the men department and how I had had absolutely nothing to of interest to report since the very brief distraction of JB. Who, if you remember, never replied to my valentines email and has been quite quiet on the facebook front ever since, and rarely, rarely texts me!

Well, not 24hrs after discussion of him, randomly out of the blue he texts me! For prosperity, as follows:

Hi hun, just saying hello, hope ya all good xx

Hello my lovely, how are you? You seem to have been a bit quiet lately, all okay? x

Yes hun, all good. Been working a bit, ha, gonna move in with *mutual friend soon. Thinking about fucking off, wanna go to Norway!

Well that's good on both counts. Can completely understand where you're coming from, I love England but SO want to travel the world. Maybe some day for both of us! Let me know when you have a new address or are about for a catch up, I still have your pressie. x

I will do hun. I will take you up a mountain one day soon. Its quite scary so I may have to give you a cuddle, naked is a given, ha

Lol, I'd need some serious reward to get me up a bloody mountain :-)

Ha, it's a reward just to see the view hun, but if you come with me, good food and a night under the stars, its beautiful.

Will be in the *local pub tomorrow about 3 if you free hun. Be good to see you x

Am working tomorrow :-( Might get off bit early and have a free hour about half four. Will give you a text if can make it. Take care hun x

How very random! I'm not sure quite what to make of it to be honest, but will see what tomorrow brings and see how I feel then. I might just pop down the pub for an hour, see how the land lies! Quite amusing though! Perhaps my new heart factory is working after all!

White stuff and weekends

Well, the British winter is doing us proud this year - more snow today! I love the snow, and don't care how much of a nuisance it is. It's winter, we're meant to have wintry weather! This positive attitude is helped by the fact that I am currently snug and warm in my living room, with the ipod playing in the background, under the pretence of studying (yes, the studying has yet to commence and the clock is ticking...!), just watching the snow float by.

I am at home for another reason, as I went for the ultrasound on my throat this morning, which was quite an odd experience as the only experience of ultrasounds I've previously had were pregnancy related - so most strange to have your throat, not your stomach scanned. Who knows what will come of it, I will just have to wait and see what the results say, but I'm not holding my breath that I'll get a diagnosis!

To catch up, I've had quite a busy and sociable weekend this weekend! It was friend Jamie's 40th birthday on Friday, so to celebrate a Mods and Rockers fancy dress pub crawl was afoot! I did make the effort to dress up, as a 1950's rocker in case you're wondering - I will have to see if there are any photo's lurking - but the getting completely trollied on a pub crawl is not my style, so it was sober shenanigans for me, and drunken ones for pretty much everyone else. Was quite a good night though, with a good number of people there, although I decided to call it a day at 12.30am rather than continue on to the after-party. I was feeling completely shattered Friday, so was lucky to make it out at all, and Y was babysitting X, so I don't like to be out til all hours of the morning. Not to mention having to get up for bowling at 9am on Saturday!

Saturday night was spent with Lily at home, in front of the TV (that didn't really get watched) with a takeaway curry and lots of chitter chatter. Always a pleasure to catch up with her, and managed to talk ourselves nearly asleep as usual! Another early rise on Sunday morning as I am doing some rearranging of sleeping arrangements, and my dad was coming to dismantle Y's current bunk/double futon and replace it with a double futon only. Next weekend X is moving from a single to a double bed so more room arranging will be taking place!

So, another weekend is over, and another week begins.

Nothing much to say

I'm afraid life is fine, but very dull at the moment.

I am spending far too much time on ebay, looking at (and sometimes buying) things for my lovely new house - which, as far as I know is still on track, although I still haven't had the mortgage offer or a completion date! I am hoping that it will coincide with the kids school holidays this year, which are the second and third weeks of April, and that doesn't seem very far away now! Have to admit that there is also a bit of me that thinks that something will go wrong and I won't get it after all, but I am trying to quash those demons with spending!

Not been up to much on the social life front. Went to a Bon Jovi tribute night with Gerii, Lily, her sister and assorted mates, and her neighbours the weekend before last, which was a significant step up from jazz, although very disturbing as "Jon Bon Jovi" was only about 12 it seemed to me, and a little disconcerting as a sex god in leather pants (as the real one is of course!). Was a good night though, helped along by her two neighbours who were both completed wasted! One of them ended the night being sick in her drive and then falling in it apparently! Fortunately that was after I dropped them home!

This weekend CJ came round Saturday night and we drank copious amounts of wine (see, I do drink sometimes!) and chatted until 3am! That was fine until I was woken every half hour from 7am onwards by X, wanting to do her "mothers day party"!

Oh, the excitement may just kill me!

Odds and sods

Was mean't to go out tonight to celebrate a (not so close these days) mates birthday, but frankly couldn't be arsed!

The plan was that I would get X to bed about 8pm, then head out about 9pm, leaving Y to babysit her once she was settled. Lo and behold, there is a bloody school disco that doesnt finish until 8.30pm, so no chance of getting her home and in bed asleep by 9! Not to mention the fact that the beautiful new bed I ordered for her from Ebay was arriving about 8pm, and so needed putting together quick. By the time all that was done, and she was finally asleep in bed it was 10pm, and frankly I was going nowhere!

Can't say I was too bothered though. Work remains ridiculously busy and stressful - coming up to the end of financial year, and more than one pot of money to beg and plead for, not to mention the every day running of the service, a couple of nightmare clients, a steering group meeting to prepare for, a 2 year strategy to complete, my new line manager banging on about performance outcomes and HR nonsense, all within a local climate of a complete rearrangement of drugs services and young peoples services, both of which are not reflected in the current strategy and impact directly on partnership arrangements - so, (yet another) night in was fine by me.

Seasonal shenanigans

So, I've been away for a while, time to catch up on the festive period I guess!

Christmas Day started with an early morning call from X at around 5.30am, which was (just about) delayed until 8am when I fuinally succumbed to getting out of bed! We have a Christmas Day rule in our house that nobody is allowed downstairs until everybody is up and dressed, and no presents are opened (excepting their stockings and the present on their bed from Father Christmas) until after we have all had breakfast. As such, we managed to make present opening last until about 11am, and then set off to collect my littlest little brother from worktown, before setting off to spend the rest of the day at my little sister's in Oxford, along with biggest little brother, mum and her partner. The journey there was pretty uneventful, and much teasing of the encountered RAF boys on the base ensued, before getting to my sister's, whose small house was positively brimming with unopened presents, opened presents and the debris from the latter!

I had a pretty good haul this year, including; new hair straighteners, cool Ug type boots, several new CD's, a bottle of Advocaat, Robbie Williams calender, some nice smellies, new cordless house phones, and a lovely bracelet from Y, which is an Argos copy of the Links of London sweetie bracelet I wanted. Bless him!

The rest of the day was fabulously festive, and Christmas dinner was positively scrummy! I haven't seen biggest little brother for 2 years, so it was great to catch up with him as well as the rest of the family crowd, and it felt like a real family Christmas this year, including the obligatory teasing, provoking and loudness from us all together. Both X and Y were well behaved, and apart from an hour being lost at 11pm at night after leaving, the day was great.

Boxing Day was a more local, and quieter affair, with a slower start to the morning and then a short trip to my growing up town, to spend the day with my dad, his partner, her grandson and littlest little brother again. Much quieter, (with some lovely boiled ham and cheese sauce on the menu), but a nice relaxed day nonetheless.

More travelling on Thursday, as we set off to mate Mick's, in Manchester. We didn't set off until late afternoon, as he was working, but the traffic was just dreadful. Finally arrived about 6pm, and cajoled him into ordering pizza in as we hadn't managed to stop off on the way to eat. After being shown round his new home, settled the kids to bed and then settled down for an evening of wine, chatting and more chatting. Suddenly found it was 2.30am and I had drunk nearly a whole bottle of wine, without feeling slightly pissed (a miracle for me!), and then made the mistake of finishing the bottle and feeling bladdered! Finally staggered up to to bed around 3.30am!

Friday was spent mooching in the morning before heading off for the Trafford Centre, where more mooching occurred before a really rubbish meal in an 'American Diner', and then more mooching! Headed out of there around 5pm and sat for literally 45mins in the car park without even moving an inch!! Fortunately, X and Y managed to amuse themselves by guessing the flavour of Jelly Beans in the back seat and after a decision to exit the other way, followed by an illegal U-turn we finally managed to escape the car park around 6pm! More putting the world to rights in the evening, with less wine but a box of chocolates, and a much more reasonable bedtime! Mick was working again Saturday, so we set off home again pretty early and managed to get back in good time. It was lovely to see him, as I haven't seen him since he came up for a wedding in August, but I was glad to be home and be able to relax properly for the next few days.

And relax we did! Sunday and Monday were spent at home doing pretty much nothing! Managed to chat to JTRC for rather longer than her phone bill would like, but other than that I didn't do very much at all.

So New Years Eve had rolled around, and we were lucky enough to all be invited to Lily's for an evening of food, friends and copious amounts of Nintendo Wii playing, christened by ourselves as New Years Wiive! Lily had made some fabulous chilli, and other yummy delights and Mr Lily had set up the conservatory with the Wii projected onto the wall, so there was lots of room for kids (and adults!) to compete! Not the craziest of evenings, but really good nonetheless, and considering the number of children (and the fact mine were there!) there was no squabbling or upset at all. All managed to stay awake for NY countdown, (including X - just about!) and we finally got home at 1.30am.

Another year is here I guess...

Best laid plans

Well so much for my girly night out last night! Lily couldn't make Saturday in the end, so she came round for a gossip and catch up on Friday night - and we put the world to rights! Saturday, first up to cancel was Bea - now attending some hippy tribal earth drumming thing (don't ask!!), secondly Meg text to say she'd had too hard a night Friday so was recovering, and finally Gerii got stuck at the football and was going to be too late. So, babysitter duly cancelled and a night in front of the telly and catching up on blogging beckoned instead. Or rather tried to!

I'd just got settled down in front of the pc, ready to catch up on all my comments and all my regular blogs when we had a powercut. Whole street, in complete darkness. Two minutes later, after a cautious trip upstairs by the light of my mobile, and a couple of decorative candles have been retrieved from the bedroom and landing. Of course, the power then immediately came back on. Television reset, computer rebooted and back to business. Five minutes later, blackout again! This pattern repeated itself about 5 times over the course of an hour - with the power cut lasting no longer than about a minute each time, but enough to make me give up the idea of the pc!

Today has been the usual late start, followed by floating fun and a roast chicken dinner, and now back to school tomorrow. Hoorah!

Murphette's Law

Well, as expected, the fact that I was prepared for shagging mean't, of course, that no offer was forthcoming! Typical!!

In fact, I haven't even had a response from SG, which I'm a tad miffed about I have to admit. I suspect he will text/call when he is next in a safe environment (ie. at work and away from the wife!), as he told me once before that he sometimes deletes texts without even reading them when he's with her, as she has a tendency to read his phone. Like I'm not discreet enough to ensure that anything I text always sounds merely light and friendly!!

In other news, it was my dad's birthday yesterday, so today we had family lunch with him, his partner, her grandson, my brother D, his new girlfriend A, me and X (Y at his dads). While I'm glad that he has found someone after my mum buggered off, his partner Minnie does my bloody head in!!!! She is such a bloody moaning cow! (Says me, lol). One of the choicer snippets of conversation today...

Minnie - need to know what you all want for Christmas.
Me - haven't really thought about it to be honest. Oh, actually I do know what I want...
Minnie (interrupting) - well just remember that I'm not working now!

FFS!!! That really pisses me off. Last year for Christmas I asked for some new saucepans, the year before I asked for a new washing basket. Yeah, I know, I'm the queen of asking for really expensive presents aren't I?!

So, I told her that I wanted a new cordless phone, to be met with the kind of look that said "How much?!", which I quickly quantified with - "you can get them for about £15 you know". Her reply... "Yes, well, they're bound to be no good though!". I tell you, I was that close to saying "Do you know what, don't fucking bother then!!".

What a week

Phew! That's about all I can say about this week! Yet again it's flown by.

Work has kept me busy as usual, with a hectic day on Thursday that included a call to the ambulance service for a client, not to mention having to nab a police officer, and then some lurking behind our front door waiting for an opportune moment to escape home! In the midst of this I have to field a call from school about Y, who is currently struggling with raging teenage hormones and "first love" experiences, followed by the trip to Manchester which started with leaving home at 7pm (an hour late - as per usual!) and finished after a last minute wrong turn, with finally arriving at hotel at 10pm.

As a result of this I didn't get to catch up with Mick as planned, but instead settled for pizza at the hotel before a couple of hours gossip with Bride from work (who came with me) and then in bed by midnight. The conference was good, (although would have been better if I'd been speaking!), but by the time we fought through the rush hour traffic and had travelled 3 junctions the wrong way up the M6 before being able to turn around, it was 9.30pm before I collected X from her dad's and arrived home!

Fortunately the rest of the weekend has been quieter, and I decided not to go out last night for Straight Mate's birthday, due mainly to lack of funds and guilt about babysitters 3 nights in a row (especially considering I have evening engagements next Tue, Wed and Thurs!). Instead, yesterday was the usual swimming lessons (X has moved up a group and now starts half an hour earlier!), followed by collecting Y from Meg's and an hour or so of catch-up, into town for obligatory pocket money spending, and an afternoon and evening in front of the telly!

Today, as a reward for filling their treat cards, we went to see Mr Bean's Holiday, which was amusing and pretty much what you'd expect from a Bean movie, followed by "floating fun" at the pool - where I'm sure I was getting the eye from some bloke - KFC and then The Princess Bride followed by The Addams Family on tv before bed!

I'm sure there is probably much more exciting things to say, but this week it will have to be elsewhere I'm afraid!

Supermum

So the weekend is already over!

Yesterday was the usual Saturday routine in the morning, X's swimming lesson (no SPM to ogle this week!), followed by the weekly visit to the library, then into town to the sweetie kiosk so X can spend an hour (it feels like) deciding what £1 pocket money can be spent on, a walk back to the car via the chip shop for chips for the kids, and off home again. The afternoon was fabulously peaceful though as X went off to daddy's at 2pm and didn't return until nearly 8.30pm, so Y and I spent the afternoon playing his new game for the Wii (mostly him) and reading (mostly me), and tackling the cleaning (both of us) so the pig sty as was would miraculously transform into a house respectable enough for someone (Lily) to visit!

Lily arrived about 8.30pm, just before X, so it was a bit like a madhouse for a couple of hours; trying to obtain and then order an indian takeaway, whilst also avoiding Lily and Y flailing arms around in a manner likely to cause injury to any innocent telephone call making individual, during a particularly intense bout of Wii Tennis, and trying to calm an over-hyped and excitable X!

Fortunately things calmed down eventually and after indian takeaway had arrived and been munched and X had gone to bed (at 10pm!) we managed to get a good few hours of gossiping in until all of a sudden it was 1am! (Y had gone to bed at 11.30pm by the way, I'm not that bad a mother!). So, an hour of reading later and off to the land of nod.

Was woken this morning to the sound of darling children's voices (read: squabbling over who was playing what on the Wii), right in the middle of a lovely, lovely dream about Robbie Williams! Not rude before you think it, just lovely chatting and being excited to be chatting. I probably woke up before the rude bit came along. Damn children!!

Amazingly for me (considering it was only 10am and a Sunday) I decided after a few minutes of trying (and failing) to recreate the Robbie dream that I might as well get up, so pottered downstairs and let the day begin with boiled eggs and soldiers. Spent much of the rest of the day washing, drying and putting away (well mine, the kids do their own) mountains of laundry (it was perfect washday weather today) in between bouts of reading on the sofa, some flapjack making with X and Y this afternoon, and then a barbecue dinner, before tidying up, hoovering (again!), bathing and bed! And now peace reigns. Aaah!
