Ended up going to girly friends last night after all! Was a good night, and got into my bed about 2am with the wonderful knowledge that I could lie in for a bit in the morning as X was at Lily's. Woke up this morning to the even better news, via phone, that X was staying there all day.
So, I have had a lovely quiet day reading the second Stieg Larsson and eating marmite on toast in my pyjamas. I love Sundays.

Out and in
Bloody car! Engine light has come on, and so it has to go for a visit to garage tomorrow. Most annoying!!
On a lighter note, had a good day out yesterday to a space museum (oh I'm so cultured!) with X and Y and my newly reacquainted paternal cousin, as well as meeting my only paternal Uncle and Aunt for the first time for over 30 years. Was good - I particularly liked my Uncle, who was actually quite funny!
Today was spent relaxing, reading and looking at the housework thinking "I really ought to do that!" - or perhaps I should just get a boyfriend who loves cleaning and cooking!
Now its Facebook, cheesecake and Sex and the City on the telly. It's not a bad life :-)

Saturday, Saturday
So the weekend has come. Yay!
I have dropped the kids off at bowling, done a quick clean downstairs and am now sat mooching about on t'internet looking for a new car. Not that I can afford a new car - not by a long shot, but my little moty car has done 97000 miles now, and I have a really bad feeling that the head gasket is about to go, so am thinking it is better to offload it before it dies completely than wait until the inevitable. Also, my bank has been foolish enough to give me a loan (well I'll believe it when its in my bank!), which was my intention to pay off an existing high interest loan with, but I could keep some of it back for a new car if need be, which is not ideal but possible. My other option is to pay off the higher interest loan completely, with the low interest one, reducing my monthly payment by about £25 a month, and then look at buying a new car on a payment plan (if they'd give it to me!) costing about £130 month, leaving me £100 a month worse off, but with a brand spanky new car!! Oh I don't know - decisions, decisions!! At the end of the day, my credit rate is not what it could be (although it had flipped up to Average for the first time in history just before Christmas!), so it may not be my choice at all - but the banks!
Well, I am off for a lengthy bath before collecting X and Y, and spending the rest of the day on my sofa, book in hand, and then off out for a curry and drinks for friend Jamie's birthday tonight.
Ah, the joy of Saturdays!

Relations
I have had an unusual, but lovely weekend this weekend. Friday night saw a bunch of girlies at the local comedy night for Bea's sisters birthday, which was all good fun, especially as I caught up with mate Molly, who I haven't seen for ages.
Saturday, carnival day in our town, dawned bright and early, and after the usual Saturday morning bowling for X and Y, X and I headed into town to view the carnival procession before meeting with my cousin A, who I haven't seen for 30 years! He contacted me on Facebook a while ago now, and then a few weeks ago suggested coming to visit (this partly prompted me to contact my biological father I think). I was a bit sceptical to be honest, but its kind of difficult to refuse, and to be honest, I am glad now that he did.
He arrived on the train about 2pm, and bless him had brought presents (2 Wii games and an £18 photo frame - not to be sniffed at!!) for us all, so we headed home for a while and had a bit of a chit and a chat, before X was picked up by her daddy for the weekend, leaving us free to spend an enjoyable afternoon frequenting some of the gardens of the local pubs. And frequenting we did, barely making it back to the 10pm train in time. It was good. He is a slightly odd kettle of fish, but to be honest, it was nice to see someone from my paternal side, which, after meeting him, seems to be a very small clan indeed.
Today is being spent doing nothing after a long lie in this morning, and a happy daughter home just now after partying in the park for carnival weekend with her dad. Roast is in, telly is on, kids are happy. Perfick!

Hooky
I am shamelessly skiving today! It's not something I do very often but every now and then I just need some time completely to myself - house empty, phone off, kids away. Time to catch up, focus, regroup from the everyday hassle and struggle of kids, money, work, life.
I should have had a weekend to myself (well half, Y was here) this weekend, as X was due to go to her Dad's for both Friday and Saturday night, and I was looking forward to peace and quiet and cracking on with my research proposal, which is not going at the moment. However, the best laid plans and all that - come 6pm Friday when I went to collect her from afterschool club (late!) she felt poorly. Headache, shivery, fever, etc. So I rang her Dad and said she was unwell, took her home, dosed her with paracetamol, comfy blankets, cosy pyjamas and cuddles before putting her to bed and resigning myself to a one night alone only weekend.
Saturday morning dawned bright and breezy, as did she, so I text to see what time he would be picking her up, only for him to decide that as he can't afford time off work she better not come until she's fully better! Oh, the luxury of stepping out of parenting when it doesn't quite fit!! So, bang went the weekend of studying in peace.
I had pretty much decided before I went to bed last night that I would have today and tomorrow off work, as my assignment is due Wednesday, however, as I opened my extension paperwork today to realise I've been given until 10th for my assignment, I now have the peace, the quiet and no motivation to finish. Instead, I have spent the morning catching up on paperwork, putting the bills back in order that had lapsed over Christmas and updating a finance spreadsheet to help me bring down the debt! I'm currently paying nearly £500 a month in debt - just think what I could do with that money if it was all paid off!?
So, today I am relaxing! And I don't care! Let the study commence tomorrow.

Mellow
The house is tidy, the kids are amusing themselves, the roast chicken and trimmings is cooking, the ipod is on, what more could a girl ask for?
Well, to stop thinking about fucking JB might be a bonus!

Tired
I am getting so old! I just can't handle the late nights like I used to.
Had a great time with Disco and friends last night, started off in one pub for a while for lots of chatter, before the majority of us moved on to more of a towny place for more drinking and dancing. I'm not a great lover of the typical town centre pub/club, but if I'm in the mood then I can pretty much deal with anything and I was quite up for a night out last night so all was good with me. The fact that Disco's brother was there and looking particularly hot also helped the night fly by - though nothing more than looking, a. he has a girlfriend, and b. he is Disco's brother! That would just be too, too weird. Oh and c. I think he's only 30.
So, after not leaving the pub til 3.30am, and then dropping off Mrs Smiler and another mutual friend, it was 4am by the time I got in, which meant I pretty much headed straight for my bed, where fortunately I was able to remain until lunchtime today, as X was at her dad's last night.
That said, I'm flaggging again now, and feel the need to settle down on the sofa for a while - after a quick trip to the shop for some medicinal chocolate...!

Onwards
Well, Saturday was a pretty ropey day, but fortunately I had no kiddies so could indulge in a few tears, going back to bed all morning, reading all afternoon, some head clearing driving (and smoking) and then an evening with Lily before working from 11pm to 2am on outreach.
Sunday was another alone day, so I did pretty much the same again - without the tears or driving - and now it's back to normal service resumed. No point in continuing to dwell, however frustrating the whole thing is!
I am off work this week, thank goodness, so spent a lazy day with the kids (and a new Martina Cole novel) yesterday, with a trip to a local country park to get a bit of exercise and blow away the cobwebs in the afternoon, followed by a trip to a local farm centre this afternoon with X (Y declined!) to see some animals and end up on a 2 mile round walk!
In house news, I've now been told that it won't be completed until the end of May!!! For fuck's sake, though looking on the bright side it does give me 2 more paydays to save a bit of cash and pay for my carpets. The only problem being that my mortgage offer runs out the middle of June so they better get there fingers out or the whole thing will be off completely.
And that's about it at the moment! Oh, the excitement....!

Siesta
Went out last night with Lily and a couple of work colleagues for Spanish tapas, which was a lovely evening. Hadn't seen one of them for over a year and it's amazing how little people change over that period of time.
We ventured into town after the meal, where the delights of people watching were truly satiated for half an hour or more, before retiring to a quieter establishment where we managed to catch last orders and proceeded to chat some more until the staff had nearly finished clearing up and we were by far the last ones in there.
After the bitter cold drive home, and it certainly was cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey, and a good nights sleep following reading a great book until 2am, I was rudely awoken at 6.45am by X excitedly informing me that it was snowing. An hour or so later and my mummy guilt dragged me out of bed to watch her making a snow bunny in the back garden, before she headed off to Daddy's for the day.
The rest of the day has been spent with me enjoying having the house completely to myself (Y at his dads for the weekend) and doing absolutely nothing, excepting the eating of chocolate and the watching of Columbo, until her return at 7pm. A most successful Easter Sunday in my book!

Seasonal shenanigans
So, I've been away for a while, time to catch up on the festive period I guess!
Christmas Day started with an early morning call from X at around 5.30am, which was (just about) delayed until 8am when I fuinally succumbed to getting out of bed! We have a Christmas Day rule in our house that nobody is allowed downstairs until everybody is up and dressed, and no presents are opened (excepting their stockings and the present on their bed from Father Christmas) until after we have all had breakfast. As such, we managed to make present opening last until about 11am, and then set off to collect my littlest little brother from worktown, before setting off to spend the rest of the day at my little sister's in Oxford, along with biggest little brother, mum and her partner. The journey there was pretty uneventful, and much teasing of the encountered RAF boys on the base ensued, before getting to my sister's, whose small house was positively brimming with unopened presents, opened presents and the debris from the latter!
I had a pretty good haul this year, including; new hair straighteners, cool Ug type boots, several new CD's, a bottle of Advocaat, Robbie Williams calender, some nice smellies, new cordless house phones, and a lovely bracelet from Y, which is an Argos copy of the Links of London sweetie bracelet I wanted. Bless him!
The rest of the day was fabulously festive, and Christmas dinner was positively scrummy! I haven't seen biggest little brother for 2 years, so it was great to catch up with him as well as the rest of the family crowd, and it felt like a real family Christmas this year, including the obligatory teasing, provoking and loudness from us all together. Both X and Y were well behaved, and apart from an hour being lost at 11pm at night after leaving, the day was great.
Boxing Day was a more local, and quieter affair, with a slower start to the morning and then a short trip to my growing up town, to spend the day with my dad, his partner, her grandson and littlest little brother again. Much quieter, (with some lovely boiled ham and cheese sauce on the menu), but a nice relaxed day nonetheless.
More travelling on Thursday, as we set off to mate Mick's, in Manchester. We didn't set off until late afternoon, as he was working, but the traffic was just dreadful. Finally arrived about 6pm, and cajoled him into ordering pizza in as we hadn't managed to stop off on the way to eat. After being shown round his new home, settled the kids to bed and then settled down for an evening of wine, chatting and more chatting. Suddenly found it was 2.30am and I had drunk nearly a whole bottle of wine, without feeling slightly pissed (a miracle for me!), and then made the mistake of finishing the bottle and feeling bladdered! Finally staggered up to to bed around 3.30am!
Friday was spent mooching in the morning before heading off for the Trafford Centre, where more mooching occurred before a really rubbish meal in an 'American Diner', and then more mooching! Headed out of there around 5pm and sat for literally 45mins in the car park without even moving an inch!! Fortunately, X and Y managed to amuse themselves by guessing the flavour of Jelly Beans in the back seat and after a decision to exit the other way, followed by an illegal U-turn we finally managed to escape the car park around 6pm! More putting the world to rights in the evening, with less wine but a box of chocolates, and a much more reasonable bedtime! Mick was working again Saturday, so we set off home again pretty early and managed to get back in good time. It was lovely to see him, as I haven't seen him since he came up for a wedding in August, but I was glad to be home and be able to relax properly for the next few days.
And relax we did! Sunday and Monday were spent at home doing pretty much nothing! Managed to chat to JTRC for rather longer than her phone bill would like, but other than that I didn't do very much at all.
So New Years Eve had rolled around, and we were lucky enough to all be invited to Lily's for an evening of food, friends and copious amounts of Nintendo Wii playing, christened by ourselves as New Years Wiive! Lily had made some fabulous chilli, and other yummy delights and Mr Lily had set up the conservatory with the Wii projected onto the wall, so there was lots of room for kids (and adults!) to compete! Not the craziest of evenings, but really good nonetheless, and considering the number of children (and the fact mine were there!) there was no squabbling or upset at all. All managed to stay awake for NY countdown, (including X - just about!) and we finally got home at 1.30am.
Another year is here I guess...

Winter
Spent the afternoon and evening today at work colleague Angel's for her birthday bash. Has been a lovely chatty day, and even managed a quick flirt with a rather attractive man who was having a fag outside the pub over the road at the same time I was smoking on Angel's doorstep. Wish I'd invited him into her porch!
Finally left at about 8pm, with a very tired X and a drive home in the snow!! Snowing indeed!

Best laid plans
Well so much for my girly night out last night! Lily couldn't make Saturday in the end, so she came round for a gossip and catch up on Friday night - and we put the world to rights! Saturday, first up to cancel was Bea - now attending some hippy tribal earth drumming thing (don't ask!!), secondly Meg text to say she'd had too hard a night Friday so was recovering, and finally Gerii got stuck at the football and was going to be too late. So, babysitter duly cancelled and a night in front of the telly and catching up on blogging beckoned instead. Or rather tried to!
I'd just got settled down in front of the pc, ready to catch up on all my comments and all my regular blogs when we had a powercut. Whole street, in complete darkness. Two minutes later, after a cautious trip upstairs by the light of my mobile, and a couple of decorative candles have been retrieved from the bedroom and landing. Of course, the power then immediately came back on. Television reset, computer rebooted and back to business. Five minutes later, blackout again! This pattern repeated itself about 5 times over the course of an hour - with the power cut lasting no longer than about a minute each time, but enough to make me give up the idea of the pc!
Today has been the usual late start, followed by floating fun and a roast chicken dinner, and now back to school tomorrow. Hoorah!

What a week
Phew! That's about all I can say about this week! Yet again it's flown by.
Work has kept me busy as usual, with a hectic day on Thursday that included a call to the ambulance service for a client, not to mention having to nab a police officer, and then some lurking behind our front door waiting for an opportune moment to escape home! In the midst of this I have to field a call from school about Y, who is currently struggling with raging teenage hormones and "first love" experiences, followed by the trip to Manchester which started with leaving home at 7pm (an hour late - as per usual!) and finished after a last minute wrong turn, with finally arriving at hotel at 10pm.
As a result of this I didn't get to catch up with Mick as planned, but instead settled for pizza at the hotel before a couple of hours gossip with Bride from work (who came with me) and then in bed by midnight. The conference was good, (although would have been better if I'd been speaking!), but by the time we fought through the rush hour traffic and had travelled 3 junctions the wrong way up the M6 before being able to turn around, it was 9.30pm before I collected X from her dad's and arrived home!
Fortunately the rest of the weekend has been quieter, and I decided not to go out last night for Straight Mate's birthday, due mainly to lack of funds and guilt about babysitters 3 nights in a row (especially considering I have evening engagements next Tue, Wed and Thurs!). Instead, yesterday was the usual swimming lessons (X has moved up a group and now starts half an hour earlier!), followed by collecting Y from Meg's and an hour or so of catch-up, into town for obligatory pocket money spending, and an afternoon and evening in front of the telly!
Today, as a reward for filling their treat cards, we went to see Mr Bean's Holiday, which was amusing and pretty much what you'd expect from a Bean movie, followed by "floating fun" at the pool - where I'm sure I was getting the eye from some bloke - KFC and then The Princess Bride followed by The Addams Family on tv before bed!
I'm sure there is probably much more exciting things to say, but this week it will have to be elsewhere I'm afraid!

Keeps on rolling
So the rest of the week, and the weekend too it would appear, have rolled on by and here we are again, poised on the brink of a fresh new week!
During my brief period of R and R (I didn't go back to work last week), I have done precisely... bugger all! Well, unless you include copious amounts of watching crap tv, eating crap food, and kipping on the sofa in the daytime of course!
Had a good long catch up call with Meg on Thursday night, and not only caught up on the gossip but also managed to clear the air in terms of feeling a little neglected by her lately. I understand the reasons why - she has her own stuff to deal with at the moment - but either way, friendship needs to be a two way street and her side of the road has been a little devoid of passing traffic just lately. We managed to discuss it and sort it out though, which is great, and hopefully we're on for a girly night this weekend for Straight Mate's birthday (money allowing!).
Last night saw myself and the hen night crew (sans wigs thank goodness!) celebrating the wedding of said Bride-to-be, which was held in a beautiful old country house-cum-hotel nearby. The food was good, the drink expensive, the jazz band great, and I had the opportunity of dragging my fabulous Vegas bought dress out of the wardrobe for it's second showing this year. After a £10 dry cleaning bill no less!! It was a good night, although no decent single men in attendance unfortunately, and another weekend of spinsterdom over.
Still haven't heard anything from Space, and not expecting too now, though M did make a surprise appearance by texting me "Hello" in the early hours of this morning! I chose to ignore it though - been there, done that, not about to go there again!
Back to work tomorrow - to madness no doubt after having 3 days off, and a conference (read overnight stay in hotel!) to look forward to in Manchester on Friday. Not sure how I'll cope with all the excitement!!

Straight
Well the Complex clan are now officially the straightest haired clan in "Somewhere in England"! Y is getting to that age where he likes to have his unruly mop of hair straightened (his one teenage trait so far), and so after swimming, showering and hair washing today, I set to work with the miracle of modern hair appliances and he has gone to bed with the mop duly tamed! Of course X had to get in on the action, so she is also now sleek and shiny, and my straightened coiffure completes the set.
Went out last night with Bea and Geri to a local pub in the same village as The Nun. However, whilst The Nun is on the wine bar side of things, The Dandelion is just the opposite! A typical spit and sawdust kind of place - complete with the very faint whiff of spilt beer and sweaty men, and full of tractor driving locals. That said, the people are always pretty friendly and easygoing, and last night they had a good pub band on, playing a range of songs including such wide ranging classics as 'Purple Rain', 'Chasing Cars', 'Maggie May' and 'Freebird'. There was much caterwauling, some dodgy dancing and lots of making fun of boys, so a pretty successful night.
In other news I have spent, spent, spent this weekend - and am now broke of course! But have bought some new clothes for me, some DS games for X and Y (for having reached their 100 star reward charts), paid all the bills for the month and have food in the house to last us at least a week - so may now have no money but a pretty successful spending!
Not sure what's happening with Space. We have still been emailing and last night I emailed him through MySpace with my email address, but I've heard nothing from him at all today - and I see another female friend has been added to his friend list in the last couple of days, so who knows! I'm not entirely sure about pursuing it anyway, and the problem with online interaction is that you can know too much about their other online activity - which doesnt make for trusting beginnings! I'm just going to let things lie and wait for him to respond before I contact him again, whilst continuing to see where it takes me without investing anything significant in terms of emotion and time. A most sensible plan methinks!

Supermum
So the weekend is already over!
Yesterday was the usual Saturday routine in the morning, X's swimming lesson (no SPM to ogle this week!), followed by the weekly visit to the library, then into town to the sweetie kiosk so X can spend an hour (it feels like) deciding what £1 pocket money can be spent on, a walk back to the car via the chip shop for chips for the kids, and off home again. The afternoon was fabulously peaceful though as X went off to daddy's at 2pm and didn't return until nearly 8.30pm, so Y and I spent the afternoon playing his new game for the Wii (mostly him) and reading (mostly me), and tackling the cleaning (both of us) so the pig sty as was would miraculously transform into a house respectable enough for someone (Lily) to visit!
Lily arrived about 8.30pm, just before X, so it was a bit like a madhouse for a couple of hours; trying to obtain and then order an indian takeaway, whilst also avoiding Lily and Y flailing arms around in a manner likely to cause injury to any innocent telephone call making individual, during a particularly intense bout of Wii Tennis, and trying to calm an over-hyped and excitable X!
Fortunately things calmed down eventually and after indian takeaway had arrived and been munched and X had gone to bed (at 10pm!) we managed to get a good few hours of gossiping in until all of a sudden it was 1am! (Y had gone to bed at 11.30pm by the way, I'm not that bad a mother!). So, an hour of reading later and off to the land of nod.
Was woken this morning to the sound of darling children's voices (read: squabbling over who was playing what on the Wii), right in the middle of a lovely, lovely dream about Robbie Williams! Not rude before you think it, just lovely chatting and being excited to be chatting. I probably woke up before the rude bit came along. Damn children!!
Amazingly for me (considering it was only 10am and a Sunday) I decided after a few minutes of trying (and failing) to recreate the Robbie dream that I might as well get up, so pottered downstairs and let the day begin with boiled eggs and soldiers. Spent much of the rest of the day washing, drying and putting away (well mine, the kids do their own) mountains of laundry (it was perfect washday weather today) in between bouts of reading on the sofa, some flapjack making with X and Y this afternoon, and then a barbecue dinner, before tidying up, hoovering (again!), bathing and bed! And now peace reigns. Aaah!

Weekends, weekends
Sorry for the delay in posting. I met the man of my dreams on Friday night and have only just staggered out of bed after a 2 day marathon sex session!
Actually, that may of course be a complete lie, but nice to dream eh?!
Friday night was good, despite the lack of above result, although town was so, so quiet it was ridiculous. Ava and I had a really good catch up though, not to mention much giggling at the freakazoids that seem to inhabit our town, and positive hysterics at the fact that I must have been wearing a sign on my forehead that said "freakazoids apply here". Seriously, the amount of (completely unwanted) male attention was ridiculous. I wouldn't mind if it had been "cute in the community" rather than "care in the community", but alas my little town is seriously lacking in attractive men. Amusement nonetheless though!
Yesterday was spent in the usual Saturday way... ogling at SPM whilst smiling encouragingly at X demonstrating breast stroke legs to the rest of her swimming class, bless her, followed by trip into town, back in time for the new non-sexy gardener, then off to Sainsbury's to spend too much on scrummy, yummy weekend food. Cheese and crackers this weekend!
I worked a late floater session last night, from 10pm-1am, which was absolutely dead, so ended up having a really late lie in this morning before off for Sunday "floating fun" down the local pool. The weather has been glorious again, so we decided to buy a couple of disposable barbecues and a few burgers and sausages, drag the kitchen table and the deckchairs out onto the newly cut back garden, and enjoy the sun while Y had his first try and barbecue cooking (and did a pretty good job of it actually). Rounded the day off with Madagascar on DVD, and bed for the kids, and here I am.
It may not sound like a fabulously exciting weekend (erm... it wasn't!), but sometimes a weekend of catching up with mates, spending time with the kids and enjoying the sunshine is just fine by me. Though if, of course, the original option had stood...

Road test
Road tested the new toy this morning, very satisfactorily! (Details elsewhere!)
The rest of the day was spent lazing around before a trip to Sainsbury's, lunch, more lazing around and then an evening stroll in a local country park.
Think I may now have to give that new toy another try...!

Better
Just got back from friend Ava's graduation party, and feeling much better than before.
Those feelings are all still there, they have been around for a long time now and will no doubt be around for a long time yet, but everything is a little more in perspective. I've managed to push them back to the back of the emotional cupboard where they belong, and shut the door on them for a few hours at least!
